CIDESCO Canada was formed in 2000 by a small group of professional skin care educators. It is a non-profit organization run by volunteers with medical-esthetic backgrounds. The Society represents the CIDESCO International Section for Canada. The purpose is to raise the standard for estheticians and share information for the mutual benefit of the members.
CIDESCO International was founded in 1946 and since 1957 has been setting the standard in esthetic education. Being a CIDESCO Diploma holder is the ultimate aim for estheticians in 33 countries, including Canada, who are all members of this prestigious organization. There are over 220 CIDESCO schools around the world from Europe to Far East, Australia and New Zealand to South Africa, which has the largest number of schools and the most powerful CIDESCO section in the world. Schools approved by CIDESCO International have to provide a training period of at least 1200 hours and follow a standardized curriculum. There is a heightened interest in obtaining the CIDESCO Diploma by those estheticians that did not obtain their education in a CIDESCO school. In Canada, they are able to take the exam at one of the CIDESCO schools during their examinations that are held annually. There is prerequisite of three years work experience before taking the exam.
